Justin Wren was a mixed martial artist who decided to change the world. Seeking a greater purpose in life, he put his fighting career on hold and set out to make a difference in the lives of those who needed it most. He traveled deep into the jungles of the Congo where he met the Mbuti Pygmies, a persecuted group that lives in slavery and abject poverty.

Justin found the Mbuti Pygmies to be caring, warmhearted people, but watched them be denied the most basic of human rights. Over the next four years, Wren made several trips to the Congo, with one lasting a full year for Wren to stay with the Pygmy people. He lived in the same twig-and-leaf huts they did, slept on the jungle floor and immersed himself in their culture. The Pygmies gave him the name Eféosa, which means “The Man Who Loves Us.”

“I knew for the Pygmies to be free they needed to own their own land, have access to clean water, and develop sustainable agriculture – all for the first time,” says Wren. “I founded the Fight for the Forgotten initiative to work to provide those things to them. With these three simple things, we can begin to break the chain of poverty, suffering, and even modern day slavery.”

Since 2011, Justin and Fight for the Forgotten have provided nearly 3,000 acres of land and 25 water wells to the Pygmies. They have fulltime staff of 18 Congolese nationals who specialize in community development who are working to drill new wells and teach the Pygmies farming practices.

Precision MMA has joined Justin’s fight and this past year they worked to raise nearly $7,000.00 for Water4, the organization that is working to bring clean water to the Mbuti Pygmies and others across the globe who do not have access to clean drinking water.

Here, Justin personally thanks all the generous members of Precision MMA and talks about how the funds raised will be put to good use.

In the spirit of martial arts this past week Poughkeepsies Precision MMA has played host to several world class competitors in several different martial arts. These guest athletes are athletes that our head coach Brian McLaughlin has trained extensively with in his own martial arts journey.

The first of our guest athletes was King of Pancrase Andy Main who joined us Tuesday for some rounds of boxing against one of the Hudson Valley’s finest boxers Paul Maley. Andy also participated in our jiu-jitsu class that evening, providing a stern test for advanced students and a good learning experience for new comers.

Judo is known as the art of the gentle way and for Precision Boxing and MMA offers one of the finest programs in the Hudson Valley MMA scene. Our guest instructors for the week were Jerry Fokas and Sergey Fedotov who were here for our Wednesday night judo and jiu jistu class. Sensei Jerry Fokas earned his black belt at the age of 14 and his 3rd degree black belt when he was 19. He was also a member of the Dutch National Team and a Champion for the Dutch National Military team. Sensei Sergey Fedotov has been a practitioner of the art of the Gentle way for 15 years and for 10 of those he was a black belt. Both were here showcasing their vast knowledge of judo to a packed class of eager Hudson Valley MMA students.

Mickey Gall has been a familiar face to MMA fans since he burst on the scene with a victory on UFC president Dana White’s reality series “Looking for a Fight”. Mickey quickly dispatched of his opponent in the first round and then proceeded to call out WWE superstar CM Punk (aka Phil Brooks).

Dana was interested, but he wanted to see if Mickey was for real so he gave him a tune up fight against new comer Mike Jackson. Mickey once again put his skills on display and dispatched of Jackson in the opening round, solidifying his place under the lights to face off against Punk inside the octagon.

Mickey knew that being a recognized name in the UFC would mean he needed to step his game up. To do so he called on long time training partner and mentor Brian McLaughlin, Precision MMA’s head coach.

Brian has been working specifically on Mickey’s ground and pound and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, which has taken his already stellar skills to the next level. Be sure to tune in September 10th on Pay Per View to UFC 203 and cheer on Mickey!

With her trademark jumping kicks and straight ahead style Lindsey quickly brought the fight to her opponent. After landing a series of unanswered blows, punctuated by a round house kick to the liver the referee stepped in an called a halt to the bout just minutes after the opening bell giving Lindsey the 1st round TKO victory.

Following her victory Lindsey had this to say

I got the W last night. I want to give a special thanks to Karl Nemeth for spending the extra time with me in getting me ready for this fight and getting me warmed up and being in my corner. Also thanks Brian McLaughlin for everything you have done for me and being in my corner. Thanks to Chelen, Cynthia, and Joe for coming and supporting me.”

Lindsey is hoping to continue her winning ways in her upcoming MMA bout where she will be able to showcase her well rounded skills.

This weekend Precision Mixed Martial Arts head coach Brian McLaughlin made the journey to Las Vegas to corner his student Jim Miller in his UFC 200 bout against Takanori Gomi.  The former Pride and Shooto champion, Gomi is widely regarded as one of the best lightweight fighters of all time.  Jim was in a must win situation against a very dangerous opponent, but rose to the occasion in dramatic fashion.

Jim followed the game plan perfectly and showed off his world class Brazilian Jiu-jitsu taking the back and quickly scoring a crowd pleasing TKO stoppage victory.  This victory made Jim the first fighter in UFC history to earn victories at both UFC 100 and UFC 200!
